Côté Gold project construction is moving ahead quickly with ‘approximately 85.7 per cent complete at the end of June’
IAMGOLD, the company that is building the new Côté Gold project north of Sudbury, said actual mining operations are underway as of July and the company expects to pour its first new bar of gold within six months.
The Côté project is a large-scale, long life open pit mining project located in Chester and Yeo Townships west of Highway 144 and about 15 kilometres northwest of the Watershed at the junction of highways 144 and 560. The new open pit mine is being developed by IAMGOLD in partnership with Sumitomo Metals & Mining of Japan, and it is expected to commence production in early 2024.
"Most of the equipment has been delivered with the remaining delivery progressing on schedule. Heavy mobile equipment continues to arrive on site,” said a press release. “Once in operation, our fleet will include 23 autonomous haul trucks and six autonomous drills all controlled from an integrated operations centre. Autonomous mining has already started." "In June, the project workforce exceeded 1,900 workers on site, achieving peak camp capacity.
