The small, 0.1 hectare fire is ‘not under control’
One new wildland fire was reported in Northeastern Ontario July 16, and it’s in the Sudbury area, said the province’s Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services division.
Sudbury 24 was confirmed Sunday afternoon. It is a 0.1 hectare fire located on the south point of Panache Lake, two kilometres east of Bassoon Lake. It is not under control. There are currently 28 active wildland fires in the northeast. Of these fires, one is not under control, one is being held, six are under control and 20 are being observed.The fire hazard is low to moderate for areas south of Wawa, Chapleau, and Timmins. North of Wawa, Chapleau, and Timmins, the fire hazard is low to high.The only fire of note currently being listed is Cochrane 7, which was confirmed June 2.
It is a 37,742 hectare wildland fire located northeast of Lake Abitibi. Ontario FireRanger Crews and a 20 person crew of forest firefighters from Mexico are dedicated to this fire. The fire is being held.
