New by-laws have been placed on fireworks by the City of Johannesburg.
Fireworks have been a controversial topic around the festive season due to the safety concerns for humans and animals.Revellers who choose to ignite fireworks on New Year's Eve will be limited to lighting them between 11pm and 1am. Those who do not comply will be hit with a fine of R1,500.
During other celebratory occasions, such as Diwali and Guy Fawkes, fireworks will only be permitted between 7pm and 10pm.
