Carer’s Allowance is gradually being replaced in Scotland by a new devolved payment.
The Department for Work and Pensions has updated the online claim form process for Carer’s Allowance advising people living in 13 council areas in Scotland to apply for a new devolved payment instead. Carer Support Payment is administered by Social Security Scotland , not the DWP , and opened in seven additional local authorities on August 19.
It’s important to be aware the DWP will continue to pay Carer’s Allowance until the move to Carer Support Payment is completed. There will be no gap in payments during the transfer between benefit platforms and the amount someone receives will stay the same. The weekly earnings threshold will also be the same as the DWP - £151 per week.
The benefit will be rolled out to more local authorities in the next few months and will be available in all areas of Scotland from November 4.
