The role models are all retired now, but not forgotten.
They are youthful, fearless and full of potential, and will surely benefit from the guidance of retired athletes whose talent and perseverance against long odds finally made the Canadian program relevant on the world scene; Gough, Edney, McRae, and the doubles team of Justin Snith and Tristan Walker.
Gough won singles bronze at PyeongChang 2018 and was part of the silver-medal winning relay team, along with Edney, Walker and Snith. McRae finished fifth in women’s singles at both PyeongChang and Sochi 2014. “It’s pretty wild,” said Ellis. “I never really imagined I would be in this position on this team. It’s pretty cool. I try to help as many people as I can. It’s been great. We’re a good group of young adults, I guess, we get along really well and we’re excited to grow together and see what we can achieve.”Article content
Ellis said her goal is a top-10 finish on the weekend, while Nash and doubles partner Natalie Corless will be in a 10-sled race and will be targeting top five. The entire Canadian team has combined for several thousand runs down the Whistler track in practice and competition, and they are counting on something of a home ice advantage to give them a leg up as they go head-to-head with athletes from the dominant nations of Germany and Austria.
