The Bank of England has unveiled the new banknotes set to role out with King Charles III's face on them, making him the second British monarch in history to be on the polymer notes

The new £5, £10, £20 and £50 polymer notes all have a portrait of the monarch taken from a snap supplied by Buckingham Palace back in 2013. The image has been updated over time as he's aged.

Speaking on the new notes, Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey said: "I am very proud that the bank is releasing the design of our new banknotes, which will carry a portrait of King Charles III." It comes as the Royal Family is set to spend their first Christmas with Queen Elizabeth. It will also be the first time Charles will give the Christmas Day speech.

He continued: “He’ll talk about how positive she was and how inclusive she was. It will be solemn and reflective, but it will show gratitude for her reign, her life and all the things she’s achieved.”
