The Coca-Cola Company said they are taking “major steps to support a circular economy” for plastic packaging by getting rid of Sprite’s green bottles.
“Taking colours out of bottles improves the quality of the recycled material,” Ochoa said. “When recycled, clear PET Sprite bottles can be remade into bottles, helping drive a circular economy for plastic.”
In addition to the bottle change, Sprite is introducing a “new visual identity system” that features a revamped logo and design to provide a “consistent look and voice around the world.” The company said Sprite’s new packaging graphics will retain the brand’s recognizable green hue and include prominent “Recycle Me” messaging.
According to the press release, Coca-Cola in North America will transition its entire green plastic portfolio to clear PET in the coming months — including Fresca, Seagram’s, and Mello Yello.
