Date published: Wednesday 4th January 2023 7:30 -Gary Neville says Arsenal rely too heavily on “the perfect pass” and claims their lack of options to change games is clear through Mikel Arteta’s reticence to use their £34m summer signing..Fabio Vieira – who signed in a £34m deal from Porto in the summer – was an unused substitute for the second game in a row and has started just two top flight games all season.
“Fabio Vieira cost £34million. Mikel obviously thought he would’ve weakened the side by bringing him on. “They’re always relying on the short bits of play around the box, which Newcastle to be fair defended so well and so resiliently and so compactly, made it so difficult for them, and they didn’t have another plan off the bench.”
But Arteta said he was happy with his side’s performance after the game, though not at all happy with the refereeing, as there were“Extremely proud of my players. The way we played, dominated the game, tried and continued to control the game. We needed that spark in the final third. We had so many situations. And when had two scandalous penalties,” Arteta told Sky Sports.
