Twenty-two years ago, nearly 100 members of the Los Angeles Fire Department were deployed to help with emergency response and recovery efforts following the, city and county elected officials, firefighters and members of law enforcement from throughout L.A. County came together not only to remember those who perished in the attacks, but to pay tribute to the heroes who responded to the call of duty more than two decades ago, and to the survivors and their loved ones.

L.A. Mayor Karen Bass recounted how firefighters from Los Angeles boarded a plan to Fort Dix in New Jersey hours after the 9/11 attacks, unsure what their tasks would be upon arrival but with the understanding that they had been called to service.
“As Americans, we have an obligation, a duty, a responsibility to fight such bigotry and ignorance, just as we did in the aftermath of the attack on our homeland,” Moore added. Rosemead was set to host its “Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony,” at 6 p.m. in its Civic Center Plaza. At the same time, Glendora’s commemoration service will be in front of Glendora City Hall, at the corner of Glendora Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

Thanks to local volunteers, a special 9/11 Memorial at Seaside Heroes Park in Torrance was set up for 9/11. Flags were placed throughout the park in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Up the coastline, rows of American flags stood proud at Torrance’s Seaside Heroes Park on Monday. The 2,977 flags, put up by local volunteers, honor the nearly 3,000 men and women who lost their lives, many of whom were aboard three flights bound for nearby Los Angeles International Airport.
