Donations of recyclables will help sponsor kids to attend the Prince George-area camp this summer.

The event runs at the Nechako Bottle Depot, located at 1922 First Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A team of volunteers will be receiving and unloading the donations of recyclables , and the Nechako Bottle Depot is matching all the funds raised.

“Each summer 200 kids need the camper sponsorship fund in order to be able to afford camp. Thanks to fundraisers and donations, kids who might otherwise have been unable to come are not left out,” camp executive director Dave Horton said in a statement released on Friday. “We keep our fees as low as possible and paying for a week of camp only covers around 40 of what it costs to run camp. We know that even that amount makes camp out of reach for some families.

Everyone who donates at least one garbage bag full of recyclables will get an entry to win a free camp session this summer, plus a second entry if they share the camp’s social media post about Cans for Kids . “I can’t cap my excitement about this,” camp program director Dayna Penson said. “Events like this keep us from fizzling out. Bring in your recycling so-da kids can come to camp.”
