There will be Bronze Age and Viking camps set up to show you what life was like at different times in history
The Nene Valley Festival is returning to Stanwick Lakes next month with nine days of events. The festival kicks off on September 9 with an array of family activities across the site.
A Bronze Age camp will be set up where families will see how jewellery and bronze tools were made. Visitors will also get to see the Big Bronze Age Boat Build taking shape by the lake. A Viking camp will also be set up with a range of "have-a-go crafts" and Stanwick Lakes' resident blacksmith will be forging replica items from throughout history. The festival will give people the opportunity to find out about the rich heritage at Stanwick Lakes, including learning about its Iron Age Roundhouse, Bronze Age Round Barrow, Weavers Barn and Heritage Museum. The festival offers children and families the chance to learn more about nature.
There will be artwork on display through the Northants Open Studios exhibition "Wings and Waves", which will be on display in the visitor centre. You will also get a chance to meet the artists themselves as they provide interactive demonstrations of their work. The café will be open throughout the events and will be selling local products to celebrate the variety of food produced in and around Nene Valley. Further activities will then take place throughout the month, including a free Sounds of Nature cycle trail between Stanwick Lakes and the Nene Wetlands Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre at Rushden Lakes.
