Meriem Moqtad, interprofessional practice learning leader at Nova Scotia Health and Shalyn Henley, NSH research associate with research, innovation and discovery, tour a mobile health unit. - Nova Scotia HealthThousands of people have used Nova Scotia’s mobile health system since it was implemented in the fall.
The Nova Scotia Health clinics include drop-ins, which don’t require an appointment, meant to alleviate emergency department pressure for low-acuity primary care cases. NSH has partnered with primary care providers including doctors and nurse practitioners, public health and Emergency Health Services to operate the clinics.
There have been calls to improve communication about when and where the clinics will be held, and some clinics have been moved indoors where possible because people had to be waiting in the cold. The demographics of patients range from newborn babies to the elderly. About 10 to 15 per cent of users are children, Sampelli said.
