The Ontario NDP is accusing the Doug Ford government of doing \u0022nothing at all\u0022 in its budget to help people with punishing inflation.
However, Statistics Canada noted in a Consumer Price Index report released Tuesday that the Ford government’s decision to lower gas and diesel prices — at a cost to the 2022 budget of $645 million — helped control inflation in Ontario.
NDP MPP Teresa Armstrong said in a statement Tuesday that a “whopping” overall 7.6% increase in inflation growth in July, which included a 9.9% hike in food prices and a 45.3% spike in natural gas prices as approved by the Ontario Energy Board , is punishing regular Ontarians. Some large corporations like housing developer and big box stores are using inflation as an “excuse to gouge” consumers even more, she said.tap here to see other videos from our team“Yet the Conservative budget has nothing at all to deal with the punishing price of inflation, and this government will not take on corporations that gouge,” Armstrong said. “These shocking inflation numbers should be a call to action to Premier Doug Ford to take action to stop corporations that gouge.
