The National Coloured Congress (NCC) expressed disappointment with President Cyril Ramaphosa's State of the Nation Address (SONA), while Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi praised its detailed approach and focus on key issues. Zibi lauded the president's individual mention of fallen soldiers and his in-depth discussion of infrastructure plans. Adams, however, criticized the speech's lack of concrete solutions for crime, particularly highlighting the issue of corrupt crime intelligence.
While Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi expressed overall satisfaction with President Cyril Ramaphosa 's State of the Nation Address ( SONA ) on Thursday, the National Coloured Congress (NCC) was less impressed. Zibi lauded the president for individually mentioning each fallen soldier killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He emphasized the significance of this gesture, stating that South Africans have largely neglected the military since the arms deal scandal.
Zibi highlighted the military's under-resourced and problematic leadership and governance, acknowledging the immense sacrifices soldiers make during missions. He also commended the speech for addressing both domestic and international issues with appropriate detail, unlike previous SONAs that offered only high-level mentions of strategic priorities. Zibi specifically praised the president's in-depth discussion of infrastructure, citing water infrastructure, passenger rail, and freight rail as examples. He acknowledged the need to see if the budget and finance minister's plans would provide viable funding for these priorities. NCC leader Fadiel Adams, however, expressed disappointment, predicting further deterioration in the situation. Adams commented on municipalities seeking devolution of police powers, particularly in light of raids on Mayco offices, raising concerns about ulterior motives. He argued that deploying 100,000 police officers to the Cape Flats would be futile without addressing the corruption within crime intelligence
