National govt depts not showing up for R100m district development plan shackling projects
National departments' lack of support hinders South Africa's district development model plan, says Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.A lofty state-sponsored plan to fix South Africa's broken municipalities is struggling to attract the very government departments meant to coordinate and integrate local development plans.
In 2019, the Cabinet approved the district development model approach and agreed it should be piloted in three areas, namely the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, OR Tambo District Municipality in the Eastern Cape and Waterberg District Municipality in Limpopo. But the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs is struggling to implement its integrated plans as not all national departments' agencies are taking part in the plans.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
