The prime minister\u0027s official residence at 24 Sussex Drive is being emptied out by the NCC to begin repairs on the crumbling structure.

Though Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family have been living in Rideau Cottage on the grounds of Rideau Hall since his election in 2015, some members of the PM’s staff have had offices in 24 Sussex. An NCC report on its heritage buildings lists 24 Sussex as in “critical” condition. It estimates refitting and renovating the building would cost $36.6 million, only a little less than the $40 million it would cost to tear it down and start anew.
