NASA's new Mars rover gets a name — Percy, for short.
. “Like every exploration mission before, our rover is going to face challenges, and it’s going to make amazing discoveries. It’s already surmounted many obstacles to get us to the point where we are today – processing for launch.”
The rover is designed to search for signs of past microbial life on Mars and will also study the planet’s climate and geology. The mission involves collecting Martian rocks and dust for a separate future expedition that aims to return these samples to Earth., which aims to return astronauts to the moon by 2024, before journeying beyond to Mars.
Mather said his participation was a way to help NASA in its bid to return astronauts to the lunar surface.
