The Apollo 8-style Artemis 2 mission will see NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glove and Christina Hammock Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, embark on a 10-day trip around the Moon.
Artemis I and II are precursors to Artemis III, an ambitious mission to land at least two astronauts on the Moon. It will come over 50 years after Apollo 17 astronauts Jack Schmitt and Gene Cernan became the last humans to step on the lunar surface in 1972.somewhere near its south pole
—probably in 2025. The descent spacecraft is likely to be an adapted SpaceX Starship vehicle flying from NASA’s Lunar Gateway. The mission will involve three moonwalks in 6.5 days before Starship takes them back to the Lunar Gateway for a transfer to Orion for the trip home to Earth.“The Artemis II crew represents thousands of people working tirelessly to bring us to the stars. This is their crew, this is our crew, this is humanity’s crew,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.
