Fans of Naruto are still talking about Kaguya’s unexpected debut in the series, but hardcore fans know that the Otsutsuki were actually foreshadowed long before through a secondary antagonist.

Naruto's controversial final villain, Kaguya Otsutsuki, was introduced all of a sudden at the end of the series, making fans wonder why author Masashi Kishimoto would do something like this. While many rumors about Kaguya's creative origins have been floating around the internet ever since, hardcore fans of Naruto know that the series actually foreshadowed this major villain many years before its debut.

Kaguya is a member of the Otsutsuki clan . Essentially, the Otsutsuki are alien parasites who travel from one planet to the other, harvesting and absorbing the vital energy of the world to become superior life forms and ascend to true godhood. The problem with Kaguya in Naruto is that the ultimate villain of the series was supposed to be Madara Uchiha, and it was not until his final battle against Naruto and Sasuke that Kaguya emerged , shocking fans for the lack of buildup.

Of course, the connection between Kaguya and Kimimaro was only established when the former made her debut, but the name of the clan being the same as that of the Otsutsuki makes one wonder if Kishimoto had actually planned Kaguya's role all the way back when Kimimaro appeared. It's impossible to establish when the author came up with the idea of Kaguya and the Otsutsuki.

Kimimaro's Story Suggests That Kaguya Was Conceived Earlier Than Fans Think The connection between Kimimaro and Kaguya obviously doesn't prove that Kishimoto came up with the Otsutsuki all the way back in chapter #216. However, the author has confirmed that the inspiration for Kaguya Otsutsuki is Princess Kaguya, the main character from The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, one of the oldest Japanese legends.
