ICYMI: N.L. Health Minister 'smelt blood in the water' ahead of Ireland health-care staff recruitment expedition | SaltWire

Health Minister Tom Osborne. Andrew Waterman/SaltWire NetworkST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Health Minister Tom Osborne hasn’t exactly been greeted with resounding applause on his trip to Ireland to recruit nurses and doctors.

Dr. Matthew Sadlier is the chair of the Irish Medical Organization’s consultant committee. Similar to the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association, the IMO represents doctors in Ireland. Osborne and his delegation were a cause for concern and had simply “smelt blood in the water” due to the ongoing problems in their healthcare system, Sadlier said.

“Irish trained nurses are telling us that the conditions they are working in are encouraging them abroad,” the representative said.
