N.J.’s largest state workers union reaches tentative contract deal with Murphy administration

The Communications Workers of America New Jersey announced the tentative deal on Thursday.

“Since February, our membership has been unified in our goal of winning significant salary growth, protecting healthcare, and recognizing telework as a new reality in many of our worksites,” CWA District 1 Vice President Dennis Trainor said in a statement. Union leaders also established a process for continued negotiations on a telework program to start Oct. 15, and secured their ability to negotiate any future health plan design changes through the State Plan Design Committee.

“This agreement will lift up our middle class and represents an important step in our journey of creating a stronger and fairer New Jersey for every family,” Murphy said. “At a time when many working families are struggling with the rising cost of living, we are ensuring that our State employees can do their jobs with the wages, benefits, and protections they deserve.
