An 18-year-old Asbury Park man accused of torturing and killing his pet cat has been indicted on multiple charges.

Bani J. Mezquititla is charged with two counts of animal cruelty accusing him of sexually abusing the cat and in the cat’s death, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday. An investigation into Mezquititla began March 2 after a “concerned citizen” brought the dead cat to police headquarters.

Police and the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals learned that Mezquititla tortured, sexually abused and killed the cat, authorities said. He was arrested the same day and brought to the Monmouth County jail, where he remains held.Anyone with information is asked to call Asbury Park police Det.
