fourth-round defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey was held out of practice Friday for disciplinary reasons, and his status for the Jets game is uncertain.

Coach Kevin Stefanski declined to provide details, but defensive end Myles Garrett shed some light in general terms on what happened with the rookie. “I think we all have to step up and say something, but sometimes silence speaks louder than words,” Garrett said during his podium interview Friday. “We’ve used our voice a couple of times and at the end of the day, he’s got to learn how to be a pro. Kevin took it into his own hands and he felt like that was the right thing to do and I’m behind my coach’s actions totally.”“It was pretty common knowledge,” Garrett said. “And it was easy to see. It wasn’t like we had to bring it to his attention.

Winfrey, out of Oklahoma, played only five snaps in Sunday’s win at Carolina, but made at least one of them count: He batted down a Baker Mayfield pass in the second quarter to bring up a third and 10. Grant Delpit picked Mayfield off on the next play, and Kareem Hunt converted into into a 1-yard TD catch for a 7-0 lead.
