Alexander Buttner cherishes his memories with Man United and he spoke to the MEN to discuss his few years in Manchester.
Alexander Buttner has played in the Netherlands, England, Russia, Belgium, and the United States, but in his own words, he is 'back home' and playing football where his career started.
He achieved his dream of having a career as a professional footballer, but taking a quick glance at his social media will tell you which club he is most proud of playing for. "Robin was one of the best in training. He scored lots of goals when we won the league and you could see he was special. He is one of the best players I've ever played with."
"It was special," Buttner said about his debut. "Normally something like this only happens in a dream and for me, it was the best day of my life. A few weeks after United became champions for the 20th time, Ferguson gathered the players at Carrington to announce that he was retiring from management. When asked about the trophy parade in Manchester a week before that game at the Hawthorns, Buttner added: "It was like we were living in a dream. Everything was perfect and when we won the league, it was crazy, everybody was celebrating and the whole city was red. The players, the fans, our families, we all came together to celebrate."
"For me, it's a special moment and he gave me the chance to play for this big club. I wanted to do something in my house for Manchester United on the wall and it was as one of the best pictures I had." "He had a strong left-foot, he was powerful and strong. Was he at the United level? He wasn’t the standard of Evra, but he was a fantastic person and he's still going strong.
"I remember this game, it was really good," Buttner said. "We won at home against Liverpool and it was great to win this match, also because we had one of the best teams around. Buttner continued to be sporadically involved during Moyes' 10 months in charge and he left United in the same summer as fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal was appointed.
