Predictably, this segment raised a lot of questions about which names society - or, dare I say, white people - bother to pronounce correctly.
Ironically, my parents chose my name precisely so it would go under the radar and suit my mixed English and Libyan heritage - sounding foreign in neither place. But it is an unfortunate reality that, in my experience, people associate a hijab with such an entirely alien lifestyle that it rarely enters people’s minds that I could have an English-sounding name.clip, I hadn’t properly considered demanding people pronounce my name correctly.
