Is this normal in public school?
Public school is much different than private schools, which often have protocols in place to permanently remove disruptive students. That said, you should talk to your child’s teacher about what is going on; young childrenunreliable narrators, yes, and the adults involved owe it to you to provide some information about just what is taking place in the classroom. Is this normal? It doesn’t happen in the average public-school class, but it’s not beyond the pale.
There are certainly private school classrooms where similar events have taken place as well, it’s just less likely that they would continue to occur in one of them. Ask your child’s teacher what is going on so you can best discuss the issue with your little one. It doesn’t make you a “privileged Karen” to want to be abreast of what’s going on in your kid’s classroom. Explain to your child that one of his classmates is having some challenges and talk to him about his feelings about the matter.
