As soon as it's plugged in you begin to feel the elements heating up inside it and there are heated pads all over this thing - on the shoulders, at the lower back and behind the front pocket. There are three heat settings to choose from too. You just press the power button on the front pocket to change it from the lowest 'green' temperature, to medium 'blue' up to the highest 'red'.
