Musa Khawula, a controversial South African blogger known for his provocative online presence, continues to face legal challenges. His recent court appearances highlight a series of offenses, including cybercrimes, defamation, and potential vehicular offenses.
Controversial blogger Musa Khawula will remain behind bars after his case was postponed again at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. The 33-year-old faces multiple charges, including hate speech , violation of the Cyber Crimes Act of 2020, and crimen injuria. During his recent court appearance, Khawula's legal team raised concerns about his missing cellphone, which was confiscated earlier.
Ofentse Nkwang, Khawula’s lawyer, stated the need to access the phone to obtain vital information for his defense.Khawula, known for his dramatic courtroom antics, repeated his theatrical display from previous hearings. He was seen blowing kisses at the media after being instructed to stand down. This particular court appearance focused on allegations of defamatory tweets he posted about businessman Ze Nxumalo in October 2024. His arrest stemmed from his failure to appear in court and remove the allegedly damaging X posts concerning former Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green and her husband, Ze Nxumalo.Adding to his legal troubles, this marked Khawula’s second court appearance this week. He previously appeared before the Fochville Magistrate's Court for a separate case. This case includes charges of attempted murder, reckless driving, and neglecting to render assistance or report an accident to the police. Rumors circulate that Khawula was involved in a hit-and-run incident where he allegedly struck a victim and left them injured on the roadside before another driver intervened. The Correctional Services has launched an investigation to determine if Khawula was using a cellphone while incarcerated. Singabakho Nxumalo, the Correctional Services Spokesman, stated they will verify his detention location and access to mobile devices
