Really, where else could a government these days get away with spending half of its achieved surplus on debt paydown when people are clamouring for help with skyrocketing utility rates costs? To the credit of those bygone fiscally responsible New Democrats, we all have been conditioned to understand better than most the cost of debt — specifically, the financial charges accumulated by decades of past deficits that amount to the minimum interest charges on a credit card bill.

Harpauer and her government get that this resonates in the recesses of this province. In fact, the Sask. Party gets how a lot of other things in this budget resonate … or at least resonate with those voters it needs to stay in power.Article content
