It’s day two of strike action at Memorial University with over 800 MUNFA members on the picket lines starting Monday morning.
Associate professor and strike captain Carolyn Walsh hopes it won’t be a long strike, but staff are in it for the long haul.Inside the university, hallways normally filled with thousands of students were bare. Classes taught by professors not represented by the Faculty Association are still in session, forcing those staff members and students to cross picket lines set up at multiple entrances on campus.
Strike captain and professor Scott Harding says students were dropping by throughout day one to offer their support and drop off hot coffee. He says they’ve received nothing but support from students who share their frustration with how MUNFA has been funded and treated.
