The mum of a drug death victim joined forces with housing campaigners at a “hellhole hotel” to demand better conditions
.
She intends to gather signatures for a petition that will seek reforms that will include wraparound through-care for people funnelled into places like the Queens Park Hotel, where Frankie died on May 4 after taking street Valium. “Frankie was not a drug addict and he had lis life in front of him but he died a very sad death because he was in an environment where everyone else was taking drugs.”
“The hotel owners should also take responsibility because they are making millions form the high capacity they can maintain from homeless residents.“All they have right now are harsh rules, like curfews and a ban on people being in other people’s rooms. “This is completely unacceptable especially when 44 homeless people have died in these squalid places in recent times.“The Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council must immediately start retro-fitting empty homes, build more social rented homes and substantially improve wrap around services for drug and alcohol addiction as well as mental health care services.Drug deaths in Scotland have been rising again in the past six months, according to estimates from police reports.
