Multiple law enforcement officers were injured in a shooting in east Charlotte on Monday.
The severity of the officers' injuries was not yet publicly known. Numerous roadways throughout the area are partially closed while authorities work to clear traffic for ambulances heading to area hospitals. Among those roads are Interstate 77 northbound at I-277 and Independence Blvd. inbound.
The CMPD SWAT team is at the scene and working through the incident. MEDIC's mass casualty unit was also seen heading to the shooting scene. The United States Marshals Task Force service, which is comprised of officers from multiple law enforcement agencies, was conducting an investigation when the shooting occurred.
"They were engaged by active gunfire from a subject," the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter. The injured officers were transported to hospitals for immediate treatment.
