One delivery service, however, had some of its users questioning whether it's somehow managed to master the art of fast-forwarding time (hopefully not) when they looked in their inboxes this morning and found a promotional email from Mr D's bot, Megan, offering a consolation promotion to mend our broken hearts.
To say that the Mother City is bouncing with excitement as kick-off for the 2023 Rugby World Cup final approaches would be a complete understatement. If only we could fast-forward to 9pm when bums will move to the edge of their seats and fingers start twitching with anticipation for the final whistle.
The email’s subject line read: ‘Here’s R50 off to mend a broken heart,’ followed by emojis of a broken heart and a rugby ball. The body of the email offered recipients a R50 discount deal to ‘mend’ their broken hearts with the words: ‘Our hearts will always be green and gold. Let’s console each other over a hot meal deal’, insinuating that Siya and the rest of the Boks have lost.Mr D released a statement saying that a technical error led to the premature distribution of the promotional offer.
‘We keep up with topical and current events and wanted to be prepared by offering a promo to our customers in the highly unlikely event that South Africa was not successful in the Rugby World Cup final today.
Thus, instead of mastering the art of time travel, it seems Megan’s fingers were simply twitching with as much anxious excitement as the rest of us – perhaps a little bit more.Mr D has subsequently taken to social media, saying that Megan deserves a red card and acknowledging that they’re ‘in the dog box’ but promised to still deliver.
