The provincial results indicate that Daniel Chapo of the ruling Front for the Liberation of Mozambique, or Frelimo, will win the vote. Preliminary results show that Frelimo is leading in all 11 provinces, however, election observers say they have doubts over the integrity of the poll saying it did not meet international standards.

Some areas have reported disorganized counting, poorly sealed ballot boxes, vote buying, inflated voter rolls, and intimidation. Mozambique has been ruled by Frelimo since its independence from Portugal in 1975.
