President urges more South Africans to get vaccinated as daily rate falls far short of the target

Simultaneously, he appealed to the millions of South Africans still hesitating about getting vaccinated to get inoculated as soon as possible and shore up the flagging immunisation drive. The country exited its third wave on Sunday, according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, and by Thursday, the test positivity rate stood at 4.1%, down from a peak of 30% in early July. On September 29, the seven-day moving average of new daily recorded cases was 1,370, down from a peak of almost 20,000 on July 8, according to Our World in Data.
