Lethu Tshabangu of Ukhamba Beerworx, an affiliate of Craft Brewers Association of South Africa and Beer Association of South Africa, said he was not excited about the president relaxing some of the regulations
Alberts said she was looking forward to seeing how things would work out in the next few days and weeks as people’s livelihoods had been affected and they were now trying to pick up the pieces.
The president’s speech was based on four focal areas – the intensification of the national vaccination campaign; the measures that will be taken to further open the economy; the introduction of a vaccination certificate; and, engagements with the UK to restore travel, tourism, and trade. Ramaphosa said that a few days ago, the South African Covid-19 Modelling Consortium had confirmed that South Africa has emerged from the third wave of Covid-19 infections.
“We have been living under the shadow of the pandemic for 574 days now, and all of us have taken strain,” Ramaphosa said.Significantly, 60% of South Africans over the age of 60, and 50% of people between the ages of 50 and 59 have now received at least one vaccine dose. Non-essential establishments like restaurants, bars and fitness centres will need to close by 11pm to allow their employees and patrons to travel home before the start of the curfew.
