Teacher unions have accused education officials of not presenting the real picture to Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on the preparedness of schools on the ground.
All systems go for reopening of schools from June 1
“As unions we have too often seen that information fed by officials to provincial departments and from provincial departments to the minister did not reflect the actual situation on the ground. “The plan to assure the safety of the workers, pupils and parents is shrouded by this vagueness. Evading the realities... on the ground is a cause for concern. Juxtapose this against the results of the survey conducted among a considerable sample of 9 365 schools across the country and the minister’s optimism must be questioned. This survey was completed by principals who are on the ground, and are the very army the country depends on to manage schools in conditions of safety.
