The Jays will give the ball to Alek Manoah Friday night when the big righty makes his return after he last pitched in the majors on June 5.
Now comes the real test against big-league bats as Manoah re-emerges on the MLB stage.
Detroit will throw righty Alex Faedo, who is making his own return following a stint on the injured list, at the Blue Jays, who wrapped up a traditional double-header Thursday in Chicago against the White Sox. His slider is said to be much sharper and his pitching mechanics more refined, but all will be exposed or confirmed once he takes to the bump at Comerica Park.
Without Manoah, the Jays have been forced to use a four-man rotation, while resorting to bullpen days.
