Chiefs were reported to be chasing Mokotjo's signature in the off-season after he returned from United States of America following his spell with Major League Soccer side Cincinnati in 2021.Mokotjo had a solid career in Europe, where he spent nearly a decade in the Dutch Eredivisie and also stayed for three years in England for Brentford before moving to USA.
There was anticipation that Chiefs would sign the SuperSport United development product, especially after signing Keagan Dolly, who also returned from overseas but Mokotjo ended up signing with Sekhukhune United. The young Chiefs administrator says Mokotjo was not recommended by the technical team and so he was not considered as they follow directions from the coaches. "He is a great player but just like Andile Jali he was never a player that we wanted. Coaches have their reasons and it's our goal to help them reach their target," Motaung Jr said on Radio 2000's Game On.
