And new figures show there were more than 100 extra deaths during the winter months than during the rest of the year.Between December 2022 and March 2023, 809 deaths were registered in Dumfries and Galloway.
The NRS figures also show that there were 113 additional deaths registered in the region between December and March than during non-winter periods.Across Scotland, there were 24,427 deaths registered between December last year and March this year – the highest number of winter deaths for more than 30 years.
