This after a second cold front made landfall in Cape Town early on Tuesday morning, causing heavy rain and stormy conditions.
CAPE TOWN - As communities in some parts of Cape Town grapple with rains that have left a trail of destruction, Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said residents had reported localised flooding in more than 70 areas across the Cape Peninsula.
Hill-Lewis joined the city's roads infrastructure and stormwater teams in several areas experiencing flooding on Tuesday. "The rain at the moment is still very heavy. We have got two rivers that have burst their banks, the Eerste River and the Liesbeek River, and we expect in the coming hours that several other rivers will also burst their banks. So, we are still far from through this major storm event."
The mayor has asked residents to be patient while the teams do their work and practice caution on the roads. "With roads blocked, with traffic impact, please be very safe out on the roads. Rather stay indoors if you can and only do essential travel and remember to report emergency situations to the city's emergency call centre."
