Almost 700 elderly residents in Dumfries and Galloway needed emergency hospital treatment last year after a fall.Public Health Scotland released unintentional injuries figures for 2022/23 this week.
They show that in Dumfries and Galloway, 697 people aged 75 or older had to be taken to hospital with an unintentional injury, with 628 of those admissions as a result of a fall.Nationally, 20,376 over 75s suffered an unintentional injury in 2022/23 – a slight reduction on the previous year but the second highest figure in the past decade.
