The director of open-source investigation team Bellingcat has been forced to flee his home of 20 years in Vienna, Austria, due to the growing threat from Russian intelligence services

Bellingcat founder, Eliot Higgins, says there are growing concerns about the safety of his team.

Mr Grozev says the Bulgarian authorities summoned the Russian ambassador after he was listed as wanted and were told it was “just a warning”. Based on that and other information from intelligence sources, he decided against returning to Austria. Vienna has a long-established reputation as a hub of espionage in general, and Russian agents in particular.
