The 2024 deregistration of City Varsity and Damelin has been slammed by the Higher Education Department. But what of student compensation?

Published on Tuesday 26 March, the Department of Higher Education confirmed the 2024 deregistration of CityVarsity and Damelin private colleges. In a report by, it is alleged these, plus two other Educor institutions, failed to provide audited financial statements to the department. Relating to the 2021/2022 financial year, that is a strick contravention of the Higher Education Act.

Now, following the 2024 deregistration of CityVarsity and Damelin, can you imagine the hopelessness of the students enrolled there? Preparing for family time over the long weekend, all will have a lengthier and more uncertain long weekend than they had anticipated. In addition to failing to submit evidence of their financial viability to the department, the four Educor brands can be deemed as dysfunctional. This is mainly measured against the daily complaints and grievances received from students, most of which remain unresolved,The minster sighted an example of students being graded on exam scripts that were never marked, because the lecturers had left due to non-payment of salaries.
