Council meets Tuesday
Former fairgrounds property in Belleville's west end. At its meeting Tuesday city council will be asked to approve an extra environmental assessment for a part of the property that has been found to be contaminated by toxic chemicals.
Those chemicals spread underground to the site from the adjacent former Nortel, or Northern Electric, plant. The $63,520 tender from Cambium Inc. will be for extra ground-water monitoring on the property where the contamination has been located.Plans for the fairgrounds include a new YMCA Centre for Life, an upgraded curling club, and residential and commercial uses.
