Defenseman Mario Ferraro underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his lower left fibula on Sunday and is expected to miss the next six-to-eight weeks

SAN JOSE – Mario Ferraro will miss the next six-to-eight weeks after he had surgery Sunday to repair a fracture in his lower left fibula, further decimating a Sharks defense corps with the team barely clinging to hope for a spot in the postseason.

The Sharks already have Erik Karlsson and Jaycob Megna on injured reserve, although Boughner indicated Sunday that Karlsson could be back in the lineup as soon as next weekend. Ferraro is second on the team in average time on ice with 23:33 per game and only Brent Burns, at 26:22 per game, averages more time.

“Mario keeps the room going, his energy, people feed off of it,” Boughner said. “We’re going to miss his physicality, we’re going to miss his intensity. I always say it when someone gets hurt, it’s an opportunity for someone else.” Hall received an interference penalty for the play, and the Sharks scored on the ensuing power play to tie the game 1-1. The Bruins scored the next two goals and won the game 3-1.
