SOPFEU says it prefers to recruit firefighters whose principal vocation is fighting wildfires, as they have specific qualifications.
"We're closer and we can lend a hand, but we were told by the province that for the moment, what they have is sufficient," Mayor Valérie Plante said about offering firefighters to help fight wildfires in northern Quebec.With Quebec calling for reinforcements from Europe and the U.S., officials in the Montreal region are wondering why their firefighters were not asked to help fight wildfires in the province’s north.
