The Italian cavalry seems to have rode in too late to rescue Toronto FC.

Montreal dominated Toronto in the entertaining and high-tempo match and if not for some big saves by TFC goalkeeper Alex Bono, the win would have been by more than one goal. Montreal scored in the 69th minute via an own goal by TFC centre back Lukas MacNaughton, though it was Romell Quioto who headed the ball towards the goal from in close after a great cross by Canadian international Alistair Johnston. Ayo Akinola seemed to tie it later for Toronto when he tucked in a ball with his left foot on a breakaway but the goal was called back on an off-side call, though it was very close.
