Chief Darryl Albert says multiple law enforcement agencies outside of Montgomery are offering more competitive salaries.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert is asking the city for a 25% pay increase for the entire police department.
Currently, there are approximately 300 officers on staff, but the department needs at least 400 to service the city fully. The Montgomery Public Safety Committee agreed the police department needs a pay raise and additional incentives.Betty Beville, the city’s chief financial officer, said the 25% increase is doable for the remainder of fiscal year 2024, but how to sustain the increase for the next few years comes into question.
