Fernando Velasquez Perez, 58, of Moss Landing, suffered a medical emergency and later died after life-saving measures were unsuccessful.
Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies were responding to an incident at the harbor about 1 a.m. Tuesday after an employee reported a boat on fire. Upon arrival, deputies found a craft fully engulfed in flames. Cal Fire also responded to the call and extinguished the blaze.
While deputies were still on scene, the Moss Landing Harbor employee experienced his medical emergency and died. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating both the boat fire and the death of Perez and are following up on all leads.
